Violet L. Ponzel, 65, of Edwards, passed away at 9:25 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009, at home with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2009, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brimfield, with Pastor Michael Liese officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Violet was born in Jubilee Township on June 14, 1944, a daughter of Shelby C. and Lurla L. (Bohannon) Bennett. She married August F. Ponzel on June 19, 1960 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bartonville. He survives.
She is also survived by her daughter, Carla A. (Robert F.) Jenkins of Elmwood; one grandson; three granddaughters; sisters, Betty (John) Thierer of Washburn, Mary Pope of Brimfield, Linda Busby of Peoria and Lorine (Herbert) Simpson of Brimfield; and brother, Larry (Carol) Bennett of Metamora.
Her parents; son, August Arthur Ponzel; grandson, Justin Timothy Ponzel; two sisters, Melody Busby and Janet Kalb; and brother, Shelby F. Bennett, preceded her in death.
Violet was a nurse’s aide in home healthcare, last working for Alterna-Care and Interim Healthcare. She was formerly employed at Proctor Hospital, the Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) and Frye Turkey Farm for twenty-six years.
She enjoyed making wedding cakes; listening to country music, especially Dolly Parton; visiting Branson; watching figure skating; and collecting honey pots.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brimfield and was a caregiver for Illinois MENTOR.
Violet loved her church and her family very much. She will be remembered for her giving nature.
Memorial contributions may be made in Violet’s memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brimfield.
"aunt vi" was a beautiful wonderful person . may god bless and give you strength during this time. i remember so many wonderful things about the caring person she was and she will be greatly missed by many but never forgotten. love n prayers to you all.
